Flash red is the fire clownfish

Amphiprion ephippium also know as the Red Saddle Clownfish or the Fire Clownfish. They are found in the Eastern Indian Ocean, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Thailand, Malaysia, and in Indonesia to the depth range 2 – 15 m. They can grow up to 5 inches in length and live up to 15 years with good water conditions.

They are flash red in color with a a black saddle on the back. While small juveniles only have 2 or 3 white bars, these later vanish with maturity. They too like the other clowns have symbiotic relationship with some of the anemone species.

Fire Clownfish are aggressive, especially when they are defending their anemone from other clowns. They will fight any fish that they think is a potential threat.

This fish is ideal for a reef setup. If there is not an anemone available, it may host in the tentacles of the Toadstool coral or large-polyped corals. Provide an environment with plenty of live rock, hiding places. This Clownfish is an aggressive eater and should be feed 2 to 3 times per day, it will accept most of the food i.e flakes, pallets and frozen preparation.Fire Clownfish are easy to breed in a home aquarium and are now being breed at large. Interestingly, most clownfish are born as males; dominant specimens in a habitat later switch to female. If the dominant female is lost, then the dominant male will become female, and the next dominant male becomes its mate.Fire clownfish are easy to keep and their striking red color just make them fabulous selection. When introduced for the first time they will be hiding most of the time and later they would swim all over the aquarium.
