We all know the importance and beauty of rock work in a marine aquarium. Our aquarium tanks are incomplete with out them. Not only because of aesthetic value we need the rock for stabilizing the water parameters. Rocks later host large amount of beneficial bacteria which help us in water cycle.
In a marine aquarium rocks are in demand. When we say live rock usually the other person imagines rock right out of ocean. In reality the live rock are cultured in an aquarium systems. They are actually good as they do not contain any parasites and other critters. Use of rocks right out of ocean is usually avoided by the experienced hobbyist as they create a mess after some time. So they prefer cultured or dead rock.
Live rock are kick starters for our marine aquarium as they would already have those common bacteria which otherwise would take months to grow on. Live rock from ocean would also host fast growing Aiptasia which is like a bad dream when you think of cleaning. Taking out ocean live rock also brings some small amount of changes in the climate, try avoiding it. On the other hand dead rock can be customized as per our own need.
Ok let’s just put it this way, when an aquarium becomes dirty we all clean it. Now when it comes to a local retailer or a wholesaler they have multiple tanks so shutting down one aquarium is not a big problem, but for aquarium at our homes you would be just cleaning it.
After knowing the what ocean live rock can do to your aquarium, if you still go for that we suggest you to install a quarantine tank and treat it, before adding to your display tank.
