Doctors in the ocean

We call them aquarium doctors, the Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) and the Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis). These two marine creatures are known for their cleaning stations. They would remove unwanted parasites and dead tissues from other fish.

The Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse or the Dr. Wrasse requires lot of swimming space as they are very active fish. They can grow up to 6 inches, found mostly in the Western Indian Ocean, Africa and Maldives. When fully adjusted to the aquarium this fish can be feed high quality marine flake and tiny marine pellet. With Black horizontal lines and a mix of blue and white gives them a very striking color combination. If adding more than one, different size is recommended. Bit of hiding space is also required to host Bluestreak Cleaner Wrasse.

The Cleaner Shrimp will set up station on live rock or coral and wait for fish to come and be cleaned of parasites and dead tissue. It is easy to keep as it is peaceful in nature. They can grow up 3 inches and are found in Africa, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Cleaner Shrimp has pair of bright red stripes and in the middle a single white stripe running down its back. They are found in groups on the live rock and coral. They are easy to keep and can easily be adjusted to the aquarium feed of high quality marine flake and marine pellet.

Both of them thrive in aquarium and should not be kept with Hawkfish or Lionfish. They are very popular in the marine aquarium hobby.
