Lionfish is one of the most desired fish in the Indian aquarium hobby. This strangely looking fish is so much in demand that supply sometimes is unable to catch up. But this is not a normal fish it is the fiercest predator in the aquarium tank. They are not only a threat to the small tank mates but also to the aquarium keeper. Lionfish are armed with venomous spines that can cause extreme pain, sweating, respiratory distress, and even paralysis if stunged. Handling of this fish with extreme precautions is advisable.

Lionfish have distinctive brown or maroon, and white stripes covering the head and body. They have tentacles above their eyes and below the mouth. They have fan like fins and an adult lionfish can grow up to 18 inches. Native to the Indo-pacific region but now are found in almost every reef around the globe. Lionfish have been found at depths from 1 to 90 m on wrecks, artificial reefs, rock creeks and hard bottoms.

They are carnivore in nature are they should be fed meaty foods such as shrimp and live fish. Lionfish will practically eat any fish which can fit in their mouth. They are not compatible with a lot of other marine species such as clowns, damsels and chromis. Keep in mind that they grow fast so a large system is required to keep them.
